Rich in significant Civil War-era sites, Ashburn is a gracious, modern city built on a solid foundation of American history.

Ashburn is named for a local legend dating back more than 100 years. In 1896, an ash tree was said to have been struck by lightning and burned for a week, attracting curious onlookers from near and far. The area is home to four significant landmarks that are listed on the National Register of Historic Places: Belmont Plantation (1799), the Broad Run Bridge and Toll House (1820), Janelia Farm (1836) and Ashburn Presbyterian Church Golf Course (1878).
